Q: How often should I have my gas fireplace serviced?

A: Most manufacturers recommend once a year. We've found that unless your glass gets dirty or the pilot flame doesn't look quite right or doesn't stay lit, you typically can go every other year.

Q: Should I leave my pilot light running during the summer?

A: It depends. Typically it would be OK to turn off fireplaces on the main and upper levels. In a basement, due to humidity, we would recommend that you run the pilot light year round.

Q: What should I do if I smell gas.

A: Do not turn on any electrical switches, don't use a landline phone. Leave the home and call the gas company from outside or at a neighbors home.

Q: How do I know if my fireplace might need maintenance.

A: If the pilot light is yellow and not blue cone, it may be an indication it needs servicing.

Q: I have a white film on my glass is that normal.

A: Yes it is normal, but it should be cleaned off to prevent etching to the glass. When ZoomFix does an annual inspection, cleaning the glass is part of the service.

Q: Is a black film normal on the glass?

A: No. A black film is an indication of an inefficient burn of the fire/flame. You should call ZoomFix for service.

Q: What do I use to clean the glass?

A: We recommend that you use a gas fireplace glass cleaner on the inside of the glass.

Q: What kind of fireplaces can ZoomFix service?

A: ZoomFix can service and maintain most makes and models of gas fireplaces. This includes: Cozy Heat, Heat and Glo, Napoleon, Travis Industries and others. All you have to do is give us a call and we'll be there to take care of what you need.

Q: What are some of the benefits of a gas fireplace?

A: With a high-quality gas fireplace, you and your family will be able to enjoy a system that requires little to no cleanup and absolutely no tending. Also, a gas fireplace is much more efficient when it comes to heating the whole house. No curling up by the fire. You'll feel it across the room.

Q: What kind of gas fireplaces are available?

A: There are three main types of home gas fireplaces. There are inserts, which are retrofitted where you have a traditional wood burning fireplace. Then there are built-ins, which are brand new fireplaces that are built into a home. Finally, there are log sets, which are placed into existing open fireplaces.

Q: Does maintenance require a lot of effort?

A: Not on your end. Simply call ZoomFix and we can insure your gas fireplace is working properly and is safe. When we leave, it'll look like it's brand new!

Q: Is a gas fireplace really that much better?

A: We'd like to think so. You might get the classic feel from a traditional wood burning fireplace, but there are plenty of frustrations that come along with them.

With a gas burning fireplace, you won't have to worry about smoky smells, ashes or gathering logs. You won't have to clean your chimney or tend to the fire. You can control your comfort with the touch of a button. The advantages of a gas fireplace are endless.
